Help Comic Relief Give Kids a Flying Start

Can you believe it’s almost time for Comic Relief ‘s Red Nose Day again? I actually remember wearing a red nose on the first ever Comic Red Nose Day in…er…1988 I think! (Yes, I know that dates me a little, but I was still at school, honest!)

This year, Dara O’Briain, Jack Whitehall and Jon Richardson will be teaming up with BA and Guinness World Records to set the record for the ‘Highest Stand-Up Comedy Gig in the World’. 35 000 feet high to be precise!

Comic Relief supports projects in the UK, Africa, Asia and Latin America which help children who lead tough lives. With Flying Start, Comic Relief and British Airways are working together in a year-round fundraising partnership which will change lives both here in the UK and in some of the poorest countries in the world.

Flying Start is working on raising up to £6 million by 2013 to improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of children by giving them a chance to enjoy their childhood. That could be by giving them a break from caring for sick family members, supporting their education or helping children living on city streets to break free from poverty.

Could You Be Mumpreneur Idol 2011?

The main aim of this project is to inspire more mums to start home based businesses and provide support, information and full resources for mums to be able to create their own flexible working environment.

The prize list is BIG and getting bigger all the time! So far it includes a website, web hosting, support from a PR company, sales training, a Blackberry and much more.

Here’s how to enter the Mumpreneur Idol competition.

At the Mumpreneur Idol event, four finalists will battle it out to become the next big Mumpreneur. Each one will prepare a 20 minute pitch to a panel of five judges who will then select the winner to be announced at the end of the day.

You don’t have to enter to go along to the event, though. It’s an opportunity to talk to some top UK entrepreneurs, network with a whole range of like-minded people, listen to the finalists’ pitches, be involved in the judges’ Q&A time, listen to the keynote speaker and take away some practical tips and advice from the afternoon workshop.

Mumpreneur Idol is happening on Saturday 9th April 2011 at The Imperial Hotel, Russell Square, London, WC1B 5BB.

Latest Events From Networking Mummies

Networking Mummies is run by Joanne Dewberry (www.charliemoos.co.uk) and Laura Morris (www.rentabuggy.co.uk) who noticed a gap in Dorset for business support for mums. Since the group began in February 2009 they have grown to in excess of 500 members, not only mothers but also fathers and small business owners in general over 3 branches in Dorset, Hampshire and Warwickshire.

Joanne and Laura have big plans for 2011, starting with a recruitment fair in January and the launch of their franchise across the UK in February. Here are all the details…

Announcing My New Sponsor for Cybermummy: SmartTalkers Pre-School Groups

I’m really excited that SmartTalkers Pre-School Groups are sponsoring me to attend Cybermummy 2011 on 25th June!

Smart Talkers Pre-school Groups are a fun way to stimulate children’s spoken language development. They were set up by Libby Hill, who is a qualified, independent Specialist Speech & Language therapist with many years experience. Libby says “We take the development of communication for granted but it is actually the best achievement of our lifetime. We spend time on learning to be better readers, writers or dancers but we can all be better communicators too.”
