  • Tell us a little about your business

We started Tulahberry Mother & Baby when our daughter was 1yr old.  Tulahberry is a natural, organic, skin kind mother & baby e-commerce website; we sell babywear and toddler clothing, shoes, accessories, skin creams and lotion all suitable for mums and babies – we use organic cotton and bamboo and as much as possible organic and fairtrade ingredients.

  • What was your job before starting your business?

My previous job was in a Complementary Therapy Clinic as an admin assistant.  I have also been a Complementary Therapist for many years but took ‘time out’ for another baby.

  • How did you go from your old career to your new business?

The decision came about when I was forced out of my job after requesting more flexible working hours and my boss was unable to offer me anything other than my traditional working hours.  (I worked part time hours in the middle of the day and child care costs became more than my earning potential) My job then duly ‘disappeared’ and I was offered a shift pattern that was totally unsuitable. Tell us a little about your business

I run a resource and information website called Work for Mums which is aimed at mums who are working from home or who are looking for the opportunity to work from home.

What was your job before starting your business?

I have been running a successful direct selling business (Phoenix Trading) for the past 3 years and have also worked as a Youth Support Worker and Pre-School Assistant within the last 5 years.

My mission with Planet Tots is to help parents build a bright future for their little ones. Whether it be supporting your child’s development or helping look after their environment Planet Tots is the one stop shop for products, services, information and advice.

  • What was your job before starting your business?

I’ve always known I’d start my own business I was just looking for the right idea so I deliberately chose jobs which would give me the right skill set for running my business. I started as a management consultant for 5 years. I then studied for my management accountancy qualification and moved into corporate finance. Stepping off the corporate ladder: Michelle Wright of Colourwheel Creative

There was a point in my life all I wanted to do was to climb the ‘corporate ladder’ – and to be honest , I actually managed to get quite far up… I remember that somebody once said to me ‘the higher you climb, the further you fall’…. Well the time came after having my first child to fall… well, more of a sort of ‘jump splash push’, if you get my drift.. but that’s a whole other story!

So after my ‘ladder jump’ I brushed myself off and started again. A couple of part time jobs later, a few missed key moments in my daughters childhood, and many a stressful time juggling work with either a poorly child or home commitments and I decided to start building ‘my own ladder’. Tell us a little about your business

DiscoverMe Toys is an online toy store specialising in educational toys that complement the 6 key learning areas of EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage). Our toys include traditional wooden toys, beautifully hand-crafted jigsaw puzzles, activity toys, books and games. I love the toys available at DiscoverMe and we have 2 little product testers to put the toys through their paces. We have recently received a Gold Website Award from MumpreneurUK.

What was your job before starting your business?

I worked in recruitment after graduating from University, specialising in business development and account management working with many of the UK’s leading IT companies.

How did you go from your old career to your new business?
