Returning to work or your business after maternity leave can be a nerve-racking time. You may be worried about fitting back into office life. You could be worried you’ll miss your baby way too much! But another daunting aspect of going back to work is something that can strike fear into the hearts of many women. What if you’ve forgotten how to dress for business? Well, now you don’t have to worry about your work look ever again. Here’s my guide to nailing your office fashion.
Smart Casual Is Best
If it is your own business, then you can dictate the dress code. Usually, it is best to opt for a smart-casual look, as formal dress can be quite stuffy. Many modern business and startups are now telling their employees to come dressed in smart casual. So, what does that mean exactly? Well, you won’t need to turn up in a dress suit, but you shouldn’t rock up in your everyday clothes. Something in the middle will work. Think smart black trousers with a flowery blouse.
Think About Shoes
Whatever you do, don’t wear trainers. They might not fit your dress code. Even if they do, they could give clients the wrong impression. And, as you may be on your feet all day, heels could be a bad idea. If the heel is too high, you may end up in a lot of pain or, even worse, trip over! One of the best shoes for the office is the good old ballerina pump. These are flat enough for you to walk in and can add some sophistication to your overall look.
Tone Down Jewelry
Don’t head to the office wearing a large statement necklace. If it is too bling, it can be quite distracting. Work jewelry should be discreet and chic. Rings, necklaces, and bracelets should complement your look. They should not take any attention away from the overall outfit. If this doesn’t sound like the jewelry you usually wear, fear not! Why not treat yourself to some special work jewelry.
Keep Makeup Minimal
It is also important not to go over the top with your makeup either. If you wear too much, you might end up looking like you are ready for a big night out! Keep things natural with a foundation that is close to your skin’s tone. If you wear eyeshadow, pastel and neutral shades will work well. Don’t go overboard with mascara and eyeliner. There is nothing wrong with a nice red lip, but don’t be experimental with colors that are best kept for Saturday night!
Natural Hair
Hair is best kept natural as well. Don’t be tempted to try an extravagant hairstyle, as it will take you far too long to get ready in the morning! Simply wash your hair, blow dry it, and straighten it. If you have curly hair, you might want to use curling tongs on it to keep your locks bouncy.
Say bye to bad fashion days at work!
